FIFA World Cup Viewing Party Menu: Football Players' Favourite Brazilian Food

Pão de Queijo: A Snack Ronaldo Nazário Can't Resist

Let's start to assemble our FIFA World Cup game party menu with a famous football game appetizer, popularly called cheese breads in the USA. These are a staple in Brazilian homes, cafés, and for football gatherings across the country. Reportedly, former Brazilian superstar Ronaldo Nazário has often spoken about his love for traditional Brazilian snacks, including cheese-based treats. Easy to prepare, bite-sized, perfect for halftime snacking, and recipes you can double easily. Its crispy exterior and chewy cheesy center make it one of Brazil's most addictive snacks.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups tapioca flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt

Method:

  • Heat the milk and oil together and let them become lukewarm.
  • In a bowl, mix tapioca flour with a little salt.
  • Add the egg and cheese; pour the prepared milk gradually to form a semi-fluid mixture.
  • Pour the prepared mixture into either a cupcake container or any bread container you have.
  • Bake at 180°C for 20 minutes until golden.
  • So you would either have cupcake-sized breads or whole bread you can cut into pieces and serve with any dip of your choice.

Coxinha: Ronaldinho's Party Favorite

To elevate your FIFA World Cup menu, you can add in Coxinha; it is one of Brazil's most beloved street foods that can be your perfect game-day snack. Shaped like a teardrop, these crispy chicken croquettes are commonly enjoyed during football screenings and celebrations. Portable, crunchy, and packed with flavor, ideal for game-day finger food.

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups shredded chicken
  • 2 cups chicken stock (readymade/homemade)
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • Breadcrumbs
  • Eggs
  • Butter
  • Oil for frying
  • Catupiry cheese/cream cheese (optional)

Method:

  • Cook chicken, leeks, and veggies in water; boil and prepare a stock that will be used later. You can prep a day ahead this fall under recipes you can double.
  • Remove the chicken pieces from the broth and shred them finely; once done, start seasoning the chicken for filling.
  • Sauté onions; as they change colour, add shredded chicken, a little prepared broth, tomato sauce, along with the seasoning of salt, pepper, and spices of your choice.
  • Let it come together; remove it in a separate bowl and put in fridge to make it easy for filling. At this point, I like to add the cheese; traditionally it's spread at the bottom, but I like it mixed in the filling.
  • For the dough, boil stock with butter and parsley, then gradually add flour to form dough; it should come together properly and come off the pan easily. Let it cool down.
  • Remove the filling; either shape the filling and cover with dough or shape the dough and stuff the filling as you prefer.
  • Traditionally, Coxinha is shaped in a teardrop; you can make it according to your choice.
  • Dip in egg, coat with breadcrumbs, and deep fry until golden brown.
  • If you want no hassle shaping, layer the dough on a base of a tray, coat with a generous layer of filling, and again layer with dough and freeze them for 2 hours. You can easily cut them and then coat and fry or bake to make some healthy football appetizers.
